WHAT IS GYROTONICS?
Gyrotonic training is three-dimensional exercise taught on unique weight and pulley based equipment.
Founded by Juliu Horvath, in the principles of yoga, dance, tai chi, and swimming, Gyrotonic training is a series of circular and fluid exercises that works the entire body through muscular, skeletal, and cardiovascular stimulation.
Gyrotonic exercises are performed on custom-designed Gyrotonic equipment. Gyrokenesis can be done on the floor or a chair.
Both Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis exercise sequences are composed of spiraling, circular movements, which flow together seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions, with corresponding breath.
Each movement flows into the next, allowing the joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression.
These carefully crafted sequences create balance, efficiency, strength and flexibility.
The GYROTONIC® Expansion System is adaptive fitness equipment minimizing stress on the joints. It places the patient in a comfortable starting position, which makes greater movement possible. GYROTONICS is now found in rehabilitation centers, private physical therapy clinics, dance studios and fitness centers all over the world.
Originating in the world of dance, this movement method improves strength, flexibility, endurance, coordination and gracefulness of movements for activities of daily living, skilled movements and competitive sports. The System retrains the body-mind connection (neuromuscular control), and coordinated movement of the spine/trunk, pelvis and shoulder. A sophisticated system of pulleys, weights and choreography assists the individual to re-learn movement patterns through the mindful application of rhythmic, sequenced exercises.
Emphasis of training is on achieving spinal mobility as well as stability leading to improved posture, spinal alignment and core control. Within a contemporary therapeutic exercise framework, and based on individual assessment, components of the GYROTONIC® exercise method may be incorporated into a patients rehabilitation program. Utilizing spiral motion allows the patient to restore full range of combined motions.
